I am local. Can I pick up my Freezer Box at The Cheek Ranch instead of having it shipped?
Absolutely! We’re your neighbors and we would love to show you our home base. Picking up your meat in person is free. Local delivery to your home or business is a small fee depending on distance.
I don’t live in Oklahoma. How far do you ship?
Good news, pardner! When you’re with us, you’re family. We ship our USDA inspected BLACK LABEL Beef well beyond our state lines. Enter your address to see if we can ship to your location.
We’ve worked closely with FedEx and other suppliers to ship our reusable, insulated totes as far as possible– while still keeping your beef frozen. The outer plastic shipping container is designed using space-age insulating technology. It can keep the beef frozen several days while in transit to your home, using little or no ice.
How much do you charge for shipping? And what about sales tax?
Our box prices are straightforward– no sales tax and no extra shipping charges!
We’ve worked directly with FedEx to streamline our delivery and return processes. In turn, they’ve helped us keep our shipping costs low. To keep things simple for our customers we’ve built those costs directly into our Box rates. And don’t forget, if you’re local to OKC, you’ll earn a discount if you pick your box up in person.
Can I buy a quarter or a half cow?
The typical ranch may sell their beef on “shares” (ie. quarters, halves, and whole cows). While this method may be great for the cattleman, over the years we’ve discovered that it’s not really that great for our customers. So we’ve invested heavily into cold storage and a beef delivery system that aims to take the headache out of buying locally-grown, grass-fed beef. Our efforts are focused on providing 20 lb. curated Beef Club Boxes for our customers. For that reason, we are not taking orders for shares of beef at this time. (For more on our rationale … see below.)
What are the drawbacks to buying beef on “shares” of a cow?
We currently are not offering these options to our customers. Here are some of the reasons why we have moved away from this traditional model of sales:
- Prices are typically high despite the fact that consumers are buying a 6-12 month supply of meat all at once.
- Many times consumers are purchasing a live animal from the farm and have to pay the processor separately, which is cumbersome.
- Money is charged up front for 100-400 pounds of meat, and little can be done if the consumer is not satisfied with their beef or how it is processed.
- Often, consumers are asked to pay based on the hanging weight of the carcass, which includes things they may not eat or want (bones, excess fat, liver, heart, tongue, etc.).
- The consumer needs a place to store a large amount of beef, like an extra chest freezer in their garage.
- Finding a matching timeline for rancher, processor, and customer can be a difficult cowboy trick!
I’d like a box of just steaks, please! Do you sell individual cuts?
Wouldn’t it be great if that is how cows were built? Unfortunately, premium steaks account for less than 20% of a cow. We are selling the beef that our family-owned ranch produces, and while we are larger than the average family cow-calf operation, we are still very small in comparison to the overall cattle industry. Because of that, selling individual cuts at this time is not sustainable for us or our subscribers. (See our philosophy above.)
What about heart, liver, tongue, and other offal?
We currently have many of these options available in every box if desired. If there is something special that you are looking for let us know as we have cattle processed on a regular schedule and may be able to meet your needs in the near future.
Can I get the head of the cow?
We know that many ethnic dishes rely upon beef cheek meat and other delicacies that are obtained from the head of the cow. However, at this time we are not able to offer the skull to our customers, even on special orders.
Why should I buy from you?
At The Cheek Ranch, all of our beef is raised from birth right here in Yukon, Oklahoma. You can have confidence in knowing that our ranch practices are ethical, sustainable, and transparent. We also have the benefit of controlling the supply chain. So our amazing Club Members won’t experience the same beef shortages seen recently across the country.
We have worked hard to bring our beef subscription service to you at a price on par with many local alternatives which require an upfront bulk purchase and significant amounts of freezer space. (some drawbacks when buying on shares)
